The work of positions in this class emphasizes: the installation, movement and change of phone equipment, voice mail, cell phones and pagers for District facilities and staff; the provision of assistance and training to users; coordination with contractors and vendors regarding phone, cable and software installations; monitoring and diagnoses of the less complex telecommunication equipment problems. The ideal candidate is someone who works, or has worked, for a local radio shop like Telepath, Golden State or Bridge Radio. They need to have some knowledge of RF theory, radio diagnostics, programming radio channels, installation of radios/cell phones in vehicles and inventory of radio parts.
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Receive and process requests for installations, moves and changes of telephone equipment and voice mail for all District offices and sites; perform installations, moves and changes in the telephone system as needed; update records; coordinate and prioritizes work activities.
2. Receive and process requests for assignment; upgrade and changes for cell phones and pagers and update records.
3. Provide assistance and instruction to telephone, voice mail, cell phone and pager users.
4. Coordinate with telephone company representatives, cabling contractors, and other vendors regarding phone, cable and software installations.
5. Install, maintain and upgrade software for telephone, voice mail and related systems, including PBX systems.
6. Troubleshoot network connections.
7. Prepare various reports on the assignment and usage of telecommunication equipment.
8. Assist supervisors in the review of possible equipment or systems; assist in traffic analysis, and preparation and update of procedures with respect to telephone use, voice mail, and the like.
9. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:

Experience and Training Guidelines
Experience
Three years of full-time journey level experience performing installation, servicing and repair of a variety of telecommunications instruments, equipment and systems.
